Fedora 45 Is Delayed: Should You Postpone an October 27 Upgrade?
Fedora 45 had a release candidate, but it still failed the go/no-go decision. How long will your current Fedora installation remain supported if you postpone the workstation upgrade?

- As of October 26, Fedora 45 targets November 3, so an October 27 final-release installation needs to move.
- Another go/no-go meeting on October 29 will decide whether that target holds.
- Fedora 43 and 44 remain options while waiting; Fedora 45 Beta follows a different update path from Rawhide.
Postpone a plan that specifically requires the final release
November 3 is the next target for Fedora 45 Final. In the October 22 announcement, Fedora Operations Architect Aoife Moloney said outstanding blockers prevented RC-1.2 from being approved. The next decision meeting is October 29 at 17:00 UTC.
That makes November 3 a target, not a confirmed delivery date. If your October 27 maintenance window depended on a final ISO, move the installation rather than treating an available beta as the same release.
For example, a workstation reinstall can still be prepared by backing up data and checking the required application list. The actual installation window can follow the release decision. This keeps useful preparation separate from a date that has not yet been approved.
The first delay lacked a candidate; the second still had blockers
The October 15 meeting had no suitable release candidate to evaluate. That produced an automatic no-go and moved the target to October 27. Older reports showing that date describe the first delay.
At the October 22 meeting, RC-1.2 was available. The team accepted an encrypted Stratis pool boot problem as a blocker and found the removal of compromised certificates in ca-certificates insufficiently complete.
Release readiness also considers test coverage and CoreOS and IoT readiness. A beta working on one person's computer does not demonstrate that every release-blocking configuration meets the criteria.
Choose the waiting path for your current installation
The Fedora project wiki ties support to the second subsequent release, with another month of maintenance afterward. It specifically says Fedora 43 updates end a month after Fedora 45 ships.
| Current installation | What the delay means |
|---|---|
| Fedora 43 | Continue updates and plan an upgrade before support ends after 45 ships. |
| Fedora 44 | Continue receiving updates while waiting for Final. |
| Fedora 45 Beta | Package updates on the Branched path normally carry it into Final. |
| Rawhide | Do not assume the Beta-to-Final path applies. |
The wiki notes that an updated beta can differ from a fresh installation. It treats moving down from Rawhide separately, rather than promising that every development installation becomes Fedora 45 Final through the same process.
Watch the decision, then schedule the installation
Use the October 29 result to update your plan. To follow outstanding issues, use the Fedora 45 Final blocker list linked in Moloney’s follow-up correction. Issues discussed at the meeting may subsequently change status.
Keep the supported system updated now, and schedule a final-release installation after the decision and distribution are confirmed. Fedora 43 users should also account for the support deadline that follows the new release.
